Tyre pressures are an important part of caravanning, not only will the correct tyre pressures maximise the life of your tyres it will also help with towing stability. Over inflated tyres have a higher chance of punctures, sending harsh vibrations and shock through the suspension and caravan causing sway and bouncing while towing. Under inflation can create instability and the additional load on the sidewalls of the tyres can cause them to de-laminated or bulge.
Notes:
This calculation is designed for on-road towing
As a guide for when on corrugations or rough roads, 40%-50% less, this will however effect towing stability and tyre wear so you must slow down and drive to conditions
Calculator is based on GTM figure which is the vans maximum permissible weight on the wheels. The ball weight is not included in these weights as this weight is on the car when towing
Calculations supplied by New Age Caravans and is as per the caravan industry association of Australia’s guide lines
